Short Description

Saxion University of Applied Sciences is one of the largest institutions of higher education in the Netherlands, with close to 27,000 students.

Saxion has a rich history – its roots can be traced back to 1875. 

Saxion offers a broad range of courses at various levels, including many international programmes. The quality of education at Saxion is monitored by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, as well as being accredited by several international bodies, assuring that the programmes on offer are of a high standard.

Saxion University has three campuses in the East of the Netherlands – in the Dutch cities of Deventer, Enschede, and Apeldoorn.

It offers a broad range of courses at various levels (associate degrees, bachelor,’s and master’s degrees), including many international programmes.

Saxion is divided into eleven individual schools each with its own discipline, although not all schools offer international programmes.

Drs. Henny Oude Maatman graduated at the University of applied sciences as teacher for primary education (1983), the University Groningen as Historian (1995) and the University of applied sciences Tilburg in Humanistics (1998).

Henny is the international policy coordinator of the School of Education (2012), the School of Health (2025) and Workpackage Leader of the European University Network Eudres (2023). He is the coordinator of the European Teachers Network Voices and author of some editions of the Humanistic method “Hellig-Hart” and co-author of the book Democatie-Koningschap-Burgerschap.

In the European project Face-it he has been the assistant coordinator and developer of e-learing materials and coordinated later the Erasmus projects ETSize and VoiceS. He is still involved in the European projects TEFF, PAX and EDL.

Sander Kamphuis is a teacher trainer at Saxion University. For 25 years he has been training (young) people to become elementary school teachers. As a teacher of arithmetic/math and philosophical education, but also as a practice coach and inspirer. He is also involved in numerous international collaborations/projects, all more or less aimed at improving the quality of education.
